15-Year-Old Hit by Car in Huntington Station Seriously Hurt

The accident occurred Wednesday night.

A Huntington Station teen was seriously injured after he was struck by a car on Jericho Turnpike Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, Carlos Veliz-Hernandez, 15, was walking on Jericho Turnpike, 30 feet west of Melville Road, when he attempted to cross the road and was struck by a 2008 BMW at 9:15 p.m.

Veliz-Hernandez was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. The driver of the BMW, a 56-year-old Huntington Station woman, was not injured in the crash.

No criminal charges have been filed. The vehicle was impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
