Several Huntington School Districts Closed Tuesday After Winter Storm

HUNTINGTON, NY — Two Town of Huntington school districts will remain closed Tuesday, Feb. 24, following heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions caused by the winter storm.

South Huntington

All schools in the South Huntington Union Free School District will be closed on Tuesday after officials reviewed road conditions, the district said.

Leaders said the closure will allow the Town of Huntington to properly clear roads and ensure students and staff can travel safely.

District officials said they will communicate later whether the closure will count as a traditional snow day for all students or a virtual learning day for secondary students in grades 6 through 12. The district noted it must meet instructional time requirements set by the New York State Education Department.

Harborfields

Harborfields Central School District schools will be closed on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions, the district said. All school activities are canceled. Superintendent Rory Manning said there will be no remote instruction on Tuesday.

Because the closure counts as the district’s second built-in emergency closing day, schools will now be open on Tuesday, May 26, according to the district calendar.

Northport-East Northport

Northport-East Northport School District announced it will close all schools on Tuesday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

All classes, activities, and programs are canceled for the day. District offices will also be closed, officials said.

The district said it will continue monitoring weather conditions and provide updates as needed.

Families across the township were advised to monitor district communications for further information.

Saint Anthony’s High School

Saint Anthony’s High School in South Huntington also announced it will be closed on Tuesday due to the snowstorm. All classes are canceled.
