21-Year-Old College Student From Huntington Dies After Jumping Off Bridge
The incident occurred upstate Sunday afternoon, police say.

A 21-year-old Huntington man died Sunday after he jumped off a bridge into an upstate river while with a group of friends, police said.
Evan S. Gillies was pronounced dead at the hospital after he was pulled from the Saranac River in Morrisonville, according to State Police.
Police responded to the Oxbow Bridge on Kent Falls Road at about 4:27 p.m. after Gillies’ friends dialed 911 to report that he had jumped into the river and failed to resurface.

Police and rescue water teams searched the river and found Gillies’ body at about 5:44 p.m. An autopsy will be performed on Monday.
Gillies, who graduated from Harborfields High School, was a student at SUNY Plattsburgh, which is located about five miles east of Morrisonville.
