3 Harborfields Leaders Recognized For Service At Long Island Education Awards
Jennifer Bavaro, Robert Franco Jr., and Augustino Rettino were recognized flasting impact on students and the Harborfields school community.

GREENLAWN, NY — Three members of the Harborfields Central School District community were recognized for their impact on students and the broader school community during SCOPE Education Services’ 25th Annual School District Awards Dinner held Monday.
Jennifer Bavaro, Robert Franco Jr., and Augustino “Augie” Rettino were honored for their service across athletics, education, and community engagement, representing the district among Long Island leaders in education.
Bavaro, president of the Harborfields Booster Club, received the Outstanding Community Service Award for her leadership in strengthening student programs and school spirit.

Under Bavaro, the Booster Club has expanded support for athletics, clubs, and co-curricular activities across the district. Through fundraising and volunteer efforts, the organization has helped fund grants, enhance events, and sustain programs that may otherwise lack resources.
Franco, who received the Outstanding Administrator Service Award, was recognized for his leadership of the district’s athletic and physical education programs.

District officials said his work has expanded opportunities for students while prioritizing inclusion, wellness, and accessibility. During his tenure, Harborfields introduced and grew programs including Unified Golf and Bowling, Girls’ and Boys’ Fencing, Girls’ Wrestling, and Girls’ Flag Football.
Franco also established the district’s Athletic Council and improved communication through social media and livestreaming, helping strengthen engagement and school pride. His focus on safety and mental health, along with leadership roles at the county and state level, reflects a broader commitment to using athletics as a tool to connect and inspire students.
Rettino, a teacher at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School, was honored with the Outstanding Teacher Service Award for a career spanning nearly 30 years.
Throughout his tenure, Rettino has worked to enhance the educational experience for his students while also serving as an advocate for public education through his involvement with the New York State United Teachers union. His advocacy has included engaging with local and state legislators to support policies benefiting students across New York.
SCOPE Education Services has recognized educators, administrators, support staff, and community members for more than two decades, highlighting those who make meaningful contributions to education across Long Island.
SCOPE, founded in 1964, is a nonprofit organization chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The organization provides a range of services to school districts, including professional development, enrichment programs, childcare, and training opportunities for educators, parents, and students.
