48 Huntington Student-Musicians Chosen For All-County Festival

HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington has quite the stable of talented musicians. Across grades 5 through 10, 48 students have been chosen to perform in the upcoming Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) All-County Music Festival, the school district announced.

The Huntington student-musicians will join the ranks of the county’s finest orchestra, chorus, and band musicians for rehearsals and performances over two weekends in March. SCMEA places the students in divisions according to grade level. Students in grades 5 and 6 participate in Division I; grades 7 and 8 in Division II; and 9th and 10th grade students in Division III.

Each year, music teachers across Suffolk County nominate around 5,000 students for inclusion in the music ensembles. Only several hundred students are selected for each SCMEA divisional music festival.

"The volume of Huntington students chosen for participation highlights the musical talent, motivation and creativity found inside our classrooms and rehearsal rooms, as well as on the stage," the district wrote on its Facebook page.

Performance dates are as follows:

• Division III - Saturday, March 14, 2020; 7:30 p.m. - St. Anthony’s High School
• Division I - Sunday, March 15, 2020; 1 p.m. - St. Anthony’s High School
• Division II - Sunday, March 15, 2020; 5 p.m. - St. Anthony’s High School
