50 Years: Huntington Senior Center Celebrates Milestone

The center held a gala for its golden celebration. There was a gourmet lunch, celebratory cake, a champagne toast and fun entertainment.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington celebrated the 50th anniversary of its senior center on Thursday with a Golden Celebration for the memory books.

A gala was held, featuring a champagne toast, gourmet lunch, celebratory cake and entertainment.

The Town of Huntington Senior Center is at 423 Park Ave., Huntington.

"In 1974, the goal was to provide a nutritious meal and enjoyable activities for all Town of Huntington residents age 60 and above," the center stated in a news release. "Fifty years later, we have two locations, nine senior clubs (with more planned) and over 2,500 members who participate in our lunch, activities, educational or support services programs."

Chefs prepare approximately 250 meals a day.

"It would be impossible to maintain the high quality of service we have achieved without the support of the Town officials, the devoted staff, and dependable volunteers as well as consistent support from the community at large," the center wrote. "The Huntington Senior Center is proud to boast services for all seniors to relax, recharge, socialize, and have FUN!"

Seniors can stop by to enjoy a meal, attend a support group or exercise class, or play a friendly billiards competition.

"Our SUPERB SENIORS deserve SUPERB SERVICE! No one loves their seniors like the Town of Huntington does."
