8 Charged W/ DWI At Sobriety Checkpoint In Suffolk: Police

The checkpoint was part of an enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving, police say.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Eight drivers were arrested and charged with DWI at a sobriety checkpoint in Huntington Station between Friday night and Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

The checkpoint was part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving leading up to Labor Day weekend, police said. Suffolk police were assisted by the New York State Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

The checkpoint was at the corner of New York Avenue and Church Street, from 11:20 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, police said. A total of 293 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said:

  • Courtni Halegua Hale, 48, of Huntington Station.
  • Gino Marino, 39, of Greenlawn.
  • Steven Rodriguez, 25, of Farmingville.
  • Christopher Farinacci, 47, of Dix Hills.
  • Carlos Chavez Gomez, 26, of Huntington Station.
  • Ariana Echevarria, 32, of Smithtown.
  • William Pipota, 43, of Huntington Station.
  • Jack Blakley, 24, of Huntington.

The above people are set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
