GREENLAWN, N.Y. — The sounds of school spirit echoed throughout Fairfield Properties Ballpark as five performing groups from the Harborfields Central School District took center stage during Harborfields Night with the Ducks on May 1.
The special evening brought together students, families and community members for a celebration of Harborfields pride at the home of the Long Island Ducks in Central Islip, with 740 tickets sold in support of the event.
The night opened with an energetic showcase from several of the district’s performing ensembles. The Oldfield Middle School seventh and eighth-grade band, under the direction of the district's K-12 music coordinator Dan Bilawsky, joined forces with the Harborfields High School marching band, directed by Allison Scilla, and the school’s kickline team, led by Jackie Best, to perform the Harborfields Fight Song along with several additional musical selections.
The spirited performance energized the crowd and transformed the ballpark atmosphere into a celebration of Tornadoes pride.
As the game was set to begin, the evening continued with a patriotic performance featuring the Oldfield Middle School Chorus and the Harborfields High School Vocal Ensemble. The combined student groups took the field to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before players and fans throughout the stadium.
After the performances, students returned to the stands to watch the game alongside family members and friends, capping off a night that highlighted student talent, school spirit and community support.
"The turnout for this event--hundreds upon hundreds of family members, friends and neighbors--speaks volumes about the widespread support shown for our students and music program(s) in Harborfields," Bilawsky said. "Everyone truly focuses on the 'unity' in community here."
