The approved spending plan represents a $5,333,446 increase over the current year’s $102,398,324 budget.

District officials said the budget was developed to support district goals while using available revenue and reserves to continue educational programs and services for students.

The approved budget carries a 4.29 percent tax levy increase, which is within the district’s allowable tax levy limit. According to district documents, 2.29 percent of the levy supports school programs and district operations, while 2 percent supports capital work tied to principal and interest payments on voter-approved construction projects.

District officials said the budget maintains all programs, class sizes, late buses at Oldfield Middle School and Harborfields High School, low student-counselor ratios, athletic enhancements, a ninth-grade elective at the high school and academic enhancements.

The budget also includes several program additions and improvements, including an additional special education program at Oldfield Middle School, K-6 grade-level coordinators, a Director of STEM, a Director of Humanities, in-school SAT testing for all students, an EMT certification course, a follow-up security audit and work on the district’s 2028-33 strategic plan.

Planned equipment and facility-related investments include new AEDs and outdoor climate-controlled boxes, softball field bench replacements, kickboxing bags at Harborfields High School, replacement server hardware, modern spectrophotometers at the high school, cafeteria table replacements, stage lighting replacement, athletic uniform replacements and baseball and softball batting cage replacements.

According to district documents, program spending accounts for $79,331,354 of the budget, or 73.64 percent. Capital spending accounts for $15,793,799, or 14.66 percent, while administrative spending accounts for $12,606,617, or 11.70 percent.

State aid is projected at $20,669,620, a 1.20 percent increase from the current year. The district also expects to use $2,947,280 in appropriated fund balance and $3,816,587 in appropriated reserves.

Board Of Education Election

Voters also re-elected Christopher Kelly and David Steinberg to the Board of Education. Both incumbents ran unopposed for the two open seats.

Kelly received 780 votes, while Steinberg received 706 votes. There were 37 write-in votes.

Kelly has served on the board for nine years, including time as president and vice president. He works as a Market Data Advisor for Bank of America and has lived in the Harborfields community for nearly two decades.

Steinberg has served on the board for 12 years and said in his candidate statement that his priorities include strengthening academic excellence, supporting students, maintaining safe and modern facilities and ensuring responsible financial stewardship.

District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
