HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A Best Buy employee has been charged after a customer’s intimate photos were said to have been sent from her cellphone to his phone without permission while he was assisting her at the store, according to Suffolk County police.
According to Suffolk County police, a 36-year-old woman visited the Best Buy located at 148 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station on April 17 around 10 a.m. to resolve an issue with her cellphone.
Police said the woman was assisted by Kaelem Von Camper, an employee of the store.
After leaving the business, the woman received an AirDrop notification indicating that intimate photos had been sent to an unknown number without her permission, police said.
Following an investigation by Second Precinct Crime Unit officers, detectives determined the photos had been sent to Von Camper’s phone, police said.
Von Camper, 31, of Greenlawn, was arrested Wednesday at the Second Precinct.
He was charged with unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image and unauthorized use of a computer, both misdemeanors, police said.
Police said Von Camper was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
Suffolk County police are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Von Camper to contact the Second Precinct Crime Unit at 631-854-8275.
