HAUPPAUGE, NY — Rebecca Sanin honored Huntington EMT and Marine veteran Esteban Lopez as the District 16 Emergency Medical Services Professional of Distinction during Suffolk County’s annual EMS Recognition Ceremony this week in Hauppauge.
Lopez was recognized for his dedication to emergency medical services, military service and continued commitment to the Huntington community and residents across Suffolk County.
Lopez began his EMS career in 2015 as a volunteer with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad. After earning his EMT-Basic certification in 2017, he took on leadership roles as a crew leader and ambulance driver before advancing to Advanced EMT in 2021.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Lopez commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a Logistics Officer and deployed in 2024 with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Following his military service, Lopez returned home to Huntington and resumed volunteering with HCFAS, where he now serves as Day Captain, mentoring members and helping oversee agency operations.
In addition to his volunteer work, Lopez has also served with Cornell University EMS and Bangs Ambulance in Ithaca. He currently works with the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance and the Deer Park Fire District EMS.
The annual Suffolk County EMS Recognition Ceremony honors emergency medical professionals from across the county for exceptional service, leadership and commitment to protecting the health and safety of Suffolk County residents.
“Esteban represents the very best of public service,” Sanin said. “From serving his country overseas to answering emergency calls here at home, his dedication, leadership, and compassion continue to make a profound impact on our community. We are incredibly proud to recognize him as District 16’s EMS Professional of Distinction.”
