GREENLAWN, NY — Jessica Castoro has been appointed assistant principal of Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School, the Harborfields Central School District announced.
Castoro’s appointment is effective July 1. The Harborfields Board of Education approved the appointment at its April 15 meeting, according to the district.
Castoro began her career as a speech-language pathologist, supporting students in the Connetquot Central School District, Fairfax County Public Schools and the New York City Department of Education.
“I am honored to join Thomas J. Lahey as its next Assistant Principal,” Castoro said. “As both an educator and leader, I have been passionate about supporting the whole child and creating strong partnerships with families and staff. I am excited to collaborate with educators, students and families to continue fostering a school culture rooted in connection, growth and excellence.”
Castoro most recently served as assistant coordinator of special services in the Brentwood Union Free School District, where she supported staff, worked with families and helped students reach their full potential through her background in instructional leadership and assistive technology, the district said.
She also worked in the Smithtown Central School District as an instructional specialist for elementary special education and as a tenured speech teacher.
Castoro holds an advanced certification in educational leadership from Stony Brook University, as well as a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from St. John’s University.
She also has New York State certification in school building and district leadership, a professional license in speech-language pathology, and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Castoro to the leadership team at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School,” said Dr. Rory Manning, superintendent of schools. “Her extensive background and her deep commitment to supporting every student’s unique needs make her an ideal fit for our district's mission. I am confident her expertise will be a tremendous asset to our students, staff, and the entire Harborfields community.”
