HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington is extending hours at several beaches, spray parks and the Dix Hills Pool during this week’s heat advisory, town officials said.
The Huntington Flanagan Senior Center will also operate as a cooling center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 14 and 15.
“Once again, the Town of Huntington is offering services and resources to help make the sweltering temperature a little easier to handle,” Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth said. “During the heat advisory, we will be extending the hours of Town spray parks, the Dix Hills pool, and our primary beaches to help provide some cooler spots to beat the heat.”
The following hours and requirements will be in effect:
Manor Field and Elwood spray parks
The spray parks will be open to all Huntington residents from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Proof of residency is required.
Regular hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. will resume Thursday, July 16, when a Town Recreation Card will again be required.
Dix Hills Pool
The pool will be open to all Huntington residents from 12:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Proof of residency is required.
The pool will return to its regular schedule Thursday.
Flanagan Senior Center
The senior center, at 423 Park Ave. in Huntington, will serve as a cooling center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
People using the building as a cooling center will not be eligible to participate in senior center activities, town officials said.
Town beaches
Gold Star Battalion, Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart and Centerport beaches will remain open with lifeguards stationed until 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
The beaches are open only to Huntington residents, and a town beach parking permit is required. Residents can register for a virtual permit at tohbeachpermit.com.
Vehicles without permits may be ticketed. Beach parking is not permitted in the La Casa Restaurant parking lot, and violators may be towed, town officials said.
