ELWOOD, NY — The Elwood School District has appointed Dr. Timothy Hoss as interim principal of James H. Boyd Intermediate School.
Hoss, who was appointed last month, replaces Elissa Millan, who is now principal of Parkville School in the Great Neck School District.
Hoss comes to Elwood after serving as interim assistant principal at Northport High School from January through June. He previously served as principal of Northport Middle School from 2009 until his retirement in 2025.
His more than three decades in education also include roles as an assistant principal and social studies teacher at Edgemont Junior-Senior High School in Scarsdale, a social studies and language arts teacher at Mahopac Middle School, and a SUNY New Paltz adult education teacher for the New York State Department of Corrections.
Hoss is also an adjunct professor at Hofstra University, Russell Sage College and the University of Mount Saint Vincent. He previously taught as an adjunct professor at Concordia College.
A Greenlawn resident, Hoss earned a bachelor's degree in history and politics from Binghamton University; master's degrees in teaching and special education from SUNY New Paltz; a Master of Education degree in educational leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University; and a doctorate in education and policy leadership from Hofstra University.x
"Dr. Hoss brings more than three decades of experience to Elwood, along with a genuine, student-centered approach to leadership," Superintendent Dr. Gayle Steele said. "His extensive background and collaborative approach will ensure continuity and support for our students, staff and families at Boyd."
