Long Island Realty Company Marks 5 Years Of Fighting Hunger With Food Drive

COLD SPRING HARBOR, NY — Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty is marking the fifth year of its annual September food drive, inviting Long Islanders to help fight hunger by donating nonperishable food at its offices throughout the month.

The companywide initiative, organized by the Daniel Gale Foundation as part of Hunger Action Month, supports Island Harvest Food Bank, which serves Long Island, and City Harvest, which provides food to New Yorkers throughout New York City.

Over the past five years, the effort has helped provide nearly 100,000 meals to people facing food insecurity across Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens, according to the company.

"This food drive has become a tradition that our entire company looks forward to each September," said Deirdre O'Connell, CEO of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. "Our offices are deeply connected to the communities they serve, and this is an opportunity to come together, whether through donating food or volunteering our time, to help our neighbors. Reaching our fifth year and nearly 100,000 meals is something we are incredibly proud of, but we also know the need continues."

All Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty offices are collecting nonperishable food donations throughout September. Real estate advisors, employees, clients and members of the public are encouraged to participate.

The initiative also includes hands-on volunteer opportunities with both food organizations.

At Island Harvest's Healthy Harvest Farm, Daniel Gale employees and real estate advisors will help plant, weed or harvest crops, depending on the season. Volunteers will also work at City Harvest's Food Rescue Center, repacking rescued produce into family-sized portions for distribution throughout New York City.

The annual drive features a friendly competition among the company's offices to determine which team can collect the most food.

The Syosset office has won the competition every year since it began and is seeking its fifth consecutive victory.

"The competition definitely adds some fun, and Syosset has set the bar pretty high," O'Connell said. "But what makes it special is seeing every office rally its agents, staff, clients, friends and neighbors around the same goal. At the end of the month, all of those donations are going directly back into the communities where we live and work."

The food drive is part of the Daniel Gale Foundation's broader charitable efforts, which include fundraising, volunteerism and partnerships with nonprofit organizations serving Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens.

Residents interested in participating can drop off nonperishable food donations at Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty offices through the end of September.
