1. Huntington Resident Is Suffolk's 7th West Nile Virus Case (patch.com) — A Huntington resident has become Suffolk County's seventh reported West Nile virus case this season, though officials believe the infection was contracted while traveling abroad and say the person has recovered. County health authorities are urging Huntington and other Suffolk residents, especially those over 50 or with health issues, to stay vigilant about mosquito protection through November and to contact a doctor if they develop symptoms.
2. Months Later, Zippy Is Still Waiting For Someone To Earn His Trust: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week (patch.com) — Zippy, a once-injured stray now living at Huntington's Grateful Paw Cat Shelter in East Northport, has transformed into a playful, well-fed "mayor" of the cat room but is still waiting for a patient adopter. Huntington-area residents are invited to meet this shy but gentle cat, whose unique habits and slow-building trust will require someone willing to respect his boundaries and celebrate small milestones.
3. St. John's alumna receives $20,000 grant for mental health counseling business (americancatholictribune.com) — A Huntington-based mental health counseling practice just received a $20,000 L.O.C.A.L. Small Business Grant, plus a $5,000 TV ad campaign, to expand services for area residents. The funding will pay for an ADA-compliant ramp and temporary shift to virtual sessions, while boosting outreach on maternal mental health and bilingual counseling options for Huntington and wider Long Island communities.
4. Shots fired outside Huntington Station strip mall trigger school lockdowns (newsbreak.com) — Gunfire during a fight outside a New York Avenue strip mall in Huntington Station led to nearly two hours of lockouts and lockdowns across multiple Suffolk school districts, including Huntington schools. No one was injured, but parents and students described tense moments as police secured two nearby scenes and investigated what officials say involved people who knew each other.
5. Northport boys soccer goalie Teddy Hopkins makes seven saves in win over Huntington (newsday.com) — Huntington High School's boys soccer team fell 3–1 to rival Northport in a hard-fought League III rematch, despite a spectacular bicycle-kick goal from Robbie Campbell. Northport's tactical midfield change and standout goalkeeping proved the difference, but Huntington's strong record and prolific offense keep them firmly in the Suffolk title conversation.
