"Sal Lupinacci will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, generous spirit, and lifelong commitment to serving others," his family said in an obituary.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Hugh's Roman Catholic Church in Huntington Station, Lupinacci graduated from Huntington High School in 1969, where he played varsity football. He went on to attend St. John's University, graduating in 1973.

Following college, Lupinacci embarked on a 34-year career in international banking.

Rather than fully retire after leaving the banking industry, Lupinacci continued working in his community, spending 18 years as an employee of the South Huntington School District.

During his time with the district, he became known for his warmth, kindness and dedication to students, families, colleagues and community members, according to his obituary.

His contributions earned him the South Huntington Board of Education's Above and Beyond Award, recognizing his commitment to the school community.

Lupinacci also devoted time to working with adults with special needs through SCO Family of Services, building relationships with the people he assisted.

According to his family, Lupinacci found fulfillment in helping others and was known for greeting people with a smile, giving generously of his time and offering his undivided attention to those around him.

"His life was defined by kindness, compassion, and dedication to the people he loved," his family said.

Lupinacci was the husband of the late Susan Lupinacci and father of Allison Belfiore and her husband, Sal, and Chad Lupinacci, who previously served as a New York State assemblyman and Huntington Town supervisor and now serves as the executive director of the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency.

He was also the grandfather of Paul Joseph and Salvatore Anthony and great-grandfather of Gianluca.

Lupinacci was the son of the late Margaret and Anthony Lupinacci, brother of Dr. Louis Lupinacci, and brother-in-law of Dr. Dolores Kenny and her husband, David; Constance Di Spirito; Edward Di Spirito; and the late Agnes Lupinacci. He was also a beloved uncle.

"Sal will long be remembered as someone who gave freely of his time, greeted everyone with a big smile, offered his attention wholeheartedly, and found fulfillment in helping others," his family said.
