ELWOOD, NY — The Elwood-John H. Glenn High School girls volleyball team stepped off the court and into the community on Oct. 18, joining tens of thousands of participants at the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach.
The athletes completed the five-mile walk and raised more than $1,000 to support people affected by breast cancer, celebrate survivors and honor those who have died from the disease, according to the Elwood School District.
The team joined more than 70,000 participants at the event, which brought together survivors, families, supporters and community groups to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer.
"Their dedication, compassion and willingness to make a difference truly reflect the amazing young women they are," Coach Katelyn Kullack said. "These girls continue to show that being part of a team is about so much more than what happens on the court. Their kindness, teamwork and commitment to giving back to the community are something to be incredibly proud of."
