HUNTINGTON, NY — Historic Oheka Castle attracted a winning bid of $72 million during an auction in Manhattan on Tuesday, Oct. 27, but the sale of the iconic Gold Coast estate has not yet been finalized.

The 127-room French Renaissance-style mansion, located at 135 West Gate Drive, drew interest from more than 740 prospective buyers worldwide, with seven bidders ultimately competing, according to Concierge Auctions, which conducted the auction in cooperation with Adam D. Modlin of The Modlin Group.

The auction took place at The Dominick Hotel in Manhattan. The $72 million bid does not include the buyer's premium, according to the auction company.

The company's website lists the property as a closed bidding with the sale pending.

The sale is part of federal Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings involving Kahn Property Owner LLC, which filed for bankruptcy protection in July 2025.

During a hearing Thursday, Oct. 29, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Louis A. Scarcella extended the winning bidder's deadline to deposit funds until Nov. 6, according to federal bankruptcy court docket entries.

The court also established a Nov. 12 deadline for objections to the proposed sale, with another hearing scheduled for Nov. 17.

Built between 1914 and 1919 for financier Otto Hermann Kahn, Oheka Castle spans approximately 112,895 square feet across 23 acres.

The property, which operates as a hotel, restaurant and wedding venue, has appeared in films and television productions, including "Citizen Kane" and "Succession," as well as Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" music video according to People.com.

The estate also includes development opportunities, with plans approved for 95 luxury condominium units on approximately 5.13 acres, according to Concierge Auctions.

The castle underwent a $40 million restoration and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The identity of the winning bidder was not disclosed in Concierge Auctions' public announcement.

Patch reached out to Oheka Castle for comment regarding its future operations and the timeline for the pending sale.

The sale remains pending as bankruptcy proceedings continue.
