Legions of Fans Flock to Paramount

TV reality show draws big names, large crowd to Huntington Wednesday.

Picture theater and more than a thousand mostly female fans lined up for blocks, all dolled up and ready to sway to some live music.

A Frank Sinatra concert in '42? An Elvis Presley movie release in the 1950s? Was Justin Beiber in town?

Not quite, but in an atmosphere that would make Alan Freed proud, a legion of event goers flocked to Huntington's Paramount Theater for free tickets and a chance to spend a few hours with their entertainment idols Wednesday.

The first wave of fans began to congregate outside the New York Avenue venue at about noon. With not a bobby soxer in sight, by 7 p.m. the line stretched around the corner on West Carver Street — nearly to the intersection of Myrtle Street blocks away.

Waiting inside the theater was superstars Gloria Estefan, John Rich, Nelly and Joe Jonas — all in Huntington for a taping of  "The Next," a reality TV .

From Orlando to Poughkeepsi and places in between, the majority of those standing in line seemed to have the Jonas brother on their mind.

"He's like a good singer and he's good looking," said Joe Jonas fan Danielle Pitch, 17, of Ft. Salonga who was one of the first in line at noon for the 8 p.m. show.

"We grew up with them" said one of four college girls from Massepequa and Smithtown. The group said they have followed Jonas since his early days singing with his brothers in Wyckoff, N.J., "They're good role models," she said.

The show, produced by Dave Broome ("The Biggest Loser"), Queen Latifa and Shakim Compere, will debut on the Aug. 16 on the CW-11 at 9 p.m.
