BILLS TO PREVENT HEROIN, PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE CRITICAL AS LEGISLATIVE SESSION ENDS

Across New York we have seen an unfortunate rise in the abuse of heroin, opioid and prescription drugs. The consequences have been felt by families throughout the nation and even right here in communities on Long Island. The package of legislation passed today will help combat this epidemic through an awareness and education program, improved treatment for addicts, increased resources for law enforcement and harsher penalties for those dealing in illegal drugs. It is my hope that today we will begin a shift in the tides of this growing epidemic.
