WATCH: Billy Joel Plays Piano Put Out To Curb In Huntington

"It's a perfectly good piano. It's a shame to throw it out," Joel says in the video.

HUNTINGTON, NY — You'd be hard pressed to find someone who knows the piano more than New York singing legend Billy Joel. So when Joel saw a piano that was put out to a curb in Huntington last month, he couldn't help but hop behind the keys and play a tune.

"Not bad," he said in a YouTube video that captured the moment. "The action is good. It just needs tuning, and the finish is beat. It's a perfectly good piano. It's a shame to throw it out."

Joel, 71, said the piano should be donated to St. Vincent de Paul or elsewhere, to which someone off-camera told him there's a nearby thrift store.

"They'd probably take it," Joel responded, checking out the instrument. "These are laminated keys. The pedals work. The action is great. The mechanics are perfect."

The one-minute video, posted by pianoluvr2006 and dated June 26, ends there.
