The Blood Moon Eclipse of Sept. 27 in Photographs

The rare eclipse that is also a blood moon and a super-moon at once.

This particular moon shoot wasn’t just any eclipse, but it also had the distinction of being an supermoon AND a blood moon. Three different phenomena just happens to coincide on this day, so naturally I just had to take my equipment out to the Eagle Dock Beach and set up camp there.

Between roughly 8pm and 11pm, the moon starts out full then gradually darkens as the Earth’s shadow passes over the moon, reaching totality around 10:47pm to be precise. So I stood there still with my camera and lens steady on tripod, taking pics of each phase of the eclipse. You can see in the pics the gradual phases as it goes from full to quarter, half to almost nothing, and this is where the blood moon shows up. With our natural eyes it is almost too dark to even see the red colors of the blood moon itself, so I set the camera to overexpose to get as much light as can be possible.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures as much as I have taking them!
