Calling All Singers:

After 34 years, Steven Finch passed his baton on to a new director leaving behind a powerful legacy. Jennifer Scott Miceli, Ph.D. will continue and build upon this legacy beginning this season in September. She has already begun putting her mark on this new phase for the Choral Society as work begins on programming for the winter concert. A distinguished and prolific conductor, writer and performer, Dr. Miceli, who is Director of Music Education and Vocal Jazz at LIU Post. As an active guest conductor, Dr. Miceli will be able to bring her wide and varied repertoire of skills and musical knowledge to this group who has been thrilling audiences with its unique brand of music–making for over 50 years!

Included in her long tenure at LIU Post is the Long Island Sound Vocal Jazz (LISVJ) which, under her direction has performed at the esteemed Montreux, Vienne, and Jazz á Juan Festivals; Teatro Compasa in Costa Rica; New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts; NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester, NY; as invited back up choir for Barry Manilow at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, and at the world famous Iridium Jazz Club in Manhattan. An educator as well as conductor she presents statewide, divisional, national, and international courses and interest sessions and has published many articles as well as a textbook on pedagogical sequence for music literacy. Dr. Miceli currently serves as President of New York Association of College Music Programs.

Outside of the educational setting Dr. Miceli founded and directs Belle Voci Intergenerational Women’s Choir. This Long Island-based philanthropic treble ensemble includes lauded vocal music teachers and their students who sing to support cancer prevention and cure. A flutist and a singer, she has performed in England, France, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and The Czech Republic.

The Huntington Choral Society looks forward to future performances under the baton of Jennifer Scott Miceli. Our 2018 winter concert will include works by Rutter, Poulenc, Britten, Vivaldi and more.
