Canon Building About to Get Crowded

Hundreds of employees are moving into the company's new $500 million digs in Melville, according to a Monday report.

Canon employees are moving in.

More than six years after Suffolk County officials helped settle a land dispute and three years after construction began, 700 employees are headed to Canon's new regional headquarters in Melville.

According to Newsday, another 600 employees will join their co-workers by April, when the company will leave its rented offices in New Hyde Park and Manhasset.

Seymour Liebman, Canon's chief administrative officer, told Newsday "We wanted to stay on because most of our employees live here, and we didn't want to jeopardize our company by losing a substantial part of the workforce."

The new location is off Exit 49 of the Long Island Expressway. The building will serve as Tokyo-based Canon's headquarters for North and South America.
