HUNTINGTON, NY — Cat lovers, rejoice! Catpurrccinos Cat Cafe is coming to Huntington with a scheduled grand opening of Sunday, Dec. 1. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 322 Main St., the business announced.

The cafe is the dream of the Oliva family, who began rescuing cats in spring 2017. Their rescue efforts led them to form a federally-recognized 501(c)3 non-profit rescue organization, Feral to Family Cat Rescue, Inc., in February 2018. Cafe proceeds will directly support rescue efforts such as food, litter, vet care, support for foster homes, and the trapping, neutering, and returning of feral cats (commonly known as TNR, helping to curb the feral cat population on Long Island).

Upon entering Catpurrccinos, guests will be welcomed by the scents of craft coffee, gourmet grilled cheese, fresh baked goods and more. Cats are waiting beyond the cafe area in a room divided from the eatery by a double-door vestibule and separate ventilation systems, creating a complete separation between the food and felines. However, guests are more than welcome to bring their food or drink with them into the cattery.

Those with allergies, or who do not wish to visit the cat room, may enjoy a view of the cats through a glass panel dividing the two rooms, or from one of the TVs livestreaming the cats and kittens at play.

Reservations are highly recommended and available in one-hour increments. In addition, monthly memberships with unlimited visits will be offered.

"Our rescue has grown exponentially in a short amount of time, and we are so excited to be opening Catpurrccinos Cat Cafe to financially support our rescue operations, bringing together our family’s love for creating delicious food with our desire to save more cats and help curb the feral cat epidemic," Brittany Oliva, president of Feral to Family Cat Rescue, said via press release.

The organization has had over 100 adoptions in 2019 so far. The Oliva family has strong roots in both the Huntington community and in the restaurant business, as Oliva’s uncle owns Joanina, an Italian restaurant in Huntington Village.

Oliva and her fiancé, Chris Cafiero, general manager of Catpurrccinos, have been working around the clock to not only care for the nearly 100 cats under their rescue’s care, but also to perfect every detail of the cafe before it opens.
