Chabad Hebrew School Welcomes Olive Press in Port Washington

Port Washington’s Chabad Hebrew School will be celebrating a Pre-Chanukah Party with a hands-on Olive Press Workshop on Dec. 7.

The workshop aims to teach children the process of making pure olive oil. With an old-fashioned olive press, students will decant the olive juice by straining and spinning the extract in a centrifuge, separating the pure oil.

Students will create wicks to light the menorah, using pure cotton to design and form the wick. The event will be sugar-coated with hot latkes and fresh donuts, fitting for a sweet Chanukah celebration.
