Clock Tower Donated By Huntington Station BID Unveiled

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — The clock tower donated to the Town of Huntington by the Huntington Station Business Improvement District was unveiled in February, according to the town.

The clock tower is at the corner of Pulaski Road and New York Avenue.

Supervisor Ed Smyth, Councilwoman Joan Cergol, Councilman Sal Ferro and Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman were joined by town officials, the Huntington Station BID, and the Huntington Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting last month.

"The Huntington Station BID’s generous donation adds charm and character to this busy corner in downtown Huntington Station," Smyth stated. "While this clock tower is now officially keeping time on the revitalization of Huntington Station, the town's recent historic investment of federal funds into expanding county sewer access to this area of downtown Huntington Station, we have never been closer to rectifying the failed promises of Urban Renewal so many decades past."

At the Dec. 14 town board meeting, the board approved an inter-municipal agreement with Suffolk County to transfer the town’s $22,209,010 in American Rescue Plan Act Funds to the county to construct the Huntington Station Hub Sewer Infrastructure Project. The project spans the New York Avenue/Route 110 corridor from the Huntington LIRR Train Station to 14th Street with additional adjacent parcels to the east and west.

The town board accepted the BID's donation of an electric clock tower and landscaping consisting of plantings, pavers and mulch, at a board meeting in October. The clock tower was installed by the Town’s Department of General Services in December.

"I'm particularly proud of this clock tower because I look at it as something that's going to be everlasting," said Frank Cosentino, president of the Huntington Station Business Improvement District. "I'm especially proud of all our fellow board members and all the work they do, I really appreciate this day in support of permanent improvements to our downtown."
