Chamber Members Going Online To Provide Expertise, Help Business

Chamber of Commerce members becoming active bloggers online.

Social networking is catching on with Huntington businesses as a way to help the bottom line and stay connected.

That's the word from the town which says members are going online more frequently to provide expertise in various areas of interest by blogging on the COC website and news sites such as Patch, a community-specific news and information platform.

“Contributing their voices with the local news media and on such web sites like Patch shows the wide range of abilities and skills that our membership possesses,” said Robert Bontempi, Huntington Township Chamber Chairman.

Many Huntington COC members are also participating in conversations within social media platforms such as Linked-in and Facebook to support their leadership roles by becoming more active in conversations and sharing their voices within the community by offering news, information and advice to the business and general public, according to the COC.

“It is great to see our Chamber members become more involved by not only assuming a leadership role and becoming active within our local communities but by also actively sharing news, thoughts and opinions on so many different areas of expertise,” said Bontempi. .

Some Chamber members who have recently begun actively blogging include:

  • Chamber Board Member , a business insurance agent for a Gundermann & Gundermann Insurance, will keep the local community informed about Huntington village merchants and buying Local.
  • Chamber Member , a Partner in K & B Seafood, Inc. and Seaflight Logistics, Inc. His topic is business and legislative matters.
  • Chamber Board Member Jon Ten Haagen, a registered investment advisor, certified financial planner, retirement planning consultant and founder of Ten Haagen Financial Group, is writing about transportation, boating and harbor news. Ten Haagan is commodore of the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs.
  • Chamber Member , manager at Zadrozny Fuel, is covering sports, specifically the New York Islanders.
  • Chamber Member Michael Mule, president of the Townwide Fund of Huntington, will profile and introduce various non-profits which his business supports.

Chamber members’ blogs will soon be posted on the town COC web site at and can currently be seen on Patch.

"Be sure to check out the blogs to learn about everything from local business and sports to transportation, non-profits and buying locally," said a COC spokesman.
