Coronavirus: Marinas In Town Of Huntington To Reopen
A temporary limit on yard waste collection was also placed by Town of Huntington officials.

TOWN OF HUNTINGTON, NY — Some marinas in the Town of Huntington are scheduled to reopen Tuesday, officials said. The Town also set a temporary limit on yard waste collection and postponed all accessory apartment and rental inspections, as well as Traffic Court dates, scheduled through May 12.
MARITIME SERVICES
The Department of Maritime Services opened select boat ramps: Mill Dam Ramp in Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor/Billy Joel Park Ramp at Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor, opened Sunday. Soundview Ramp on Eaton’s Neck Road, Northport will open Tuesday. All other ramps will open when beach parking lots are declared open, as the ramps are only accessible via the parking lots.

Starting Tuesday, Halesite Marina on New York Avenue and Mill Dam Marina will open to the public. The Gold Star Motorized Boat Launch Service will be available at Halesite Marina. A launch operator at Halesite Marina will take up to three people to Gold Star to launch a boat, and each person on the boat must wear a face mask.
Marinas, boatyards and marine manufacturers were deemed to be allowed to open for personal use in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as long as strict social distancing and sanitization protocols are followed, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced Saturday evening.

"The opening of our marinas and boat ramps is good news for boaters," Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said in a news release. "I will remind our boaters to continue to practice social distancing, wear a face mask when you cannot distance yourself from others and wash your hands frequently when using Town maritime facilities to ensure you are not in violation of New York State Executive Orders."
The Harbormaster’s Office is closed to the public until further notice, though they are processing mooring permits via mail. Staff is working remotely, in the field, and on patrol. Email harbormaster@huntingtonny.gov with questions.
YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Town of Huntington residents are asked to limit yard waste to 10 bags placed curbside per week until further notice.
Due to everyone staying home as a result of social distancing measures, there has been a significant increase in curbside garbage, officials said. The April 13 storm caused tree and branch debris, as well. Landscapers are leaving yard waste on the curb instead of carting it away as most had done before, officials added.
The yard waste increase will result in significant financial over-runs for the Department of Environmental Waste Management, which is the reason for the 10-bag per week limit, Town officials said. Extra bags should be moved behind one's property line until the following collection.
POSTPONEMENTS
- All accessory apartment and rental inspections scheduled through May 12 have been postponed until further notice.
- All Traffic Court conference dates scheduled through May 12 are administratively adjourned; if your conference was scheduled for one of these dates, the Traffic Violations Bureau will contact you to schedule a new date.
