DA: Great Neck Man Gets Community Service After Guilty Plea for Welfare Fraud

The rug merchant has falsely reported his income to Social Services, the Nassau County District Attorney's office said.

A Great Neck man was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to fourth-degree welfare fraud in September, authorities said.

Omid Chaman, 39, the owner of Chaman Antique Rug Gallery, which has two Manhattan locations, had falsely reported his income to the Nassau County Department of Social Services from April 1, 2009 to July 31, 2012, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.

Chaman also had not reported rental income from a property he owned. During this period, Chaman and his family received $22,732 in Medicaid benefits to which they were not entitled, the DA said.
