DAR Chapter Holds Wreaths Across America Event to Honor Veterans

Ketewamoke Chapter, NSDAR placed wreaths on the graves of veterans buried in the Old Burying Hill Cemetery

Huntington, NY - The Ketewamoke Chapter, NSDAR honored the veterans buried in the Old Burying Hill Cemetery by hosting a Wreaths Across America event on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Old Burying Hill Cemetery in Huntington. Members of the chapter, alongside community volunteers, placed wreaths on each veteran's grave, and said their names aloud in remembrance of their lives, their service and their legacy.

With 107 members and nearly 112 years of history, Ketewamoke Chapter has long been involved in the community and has been devoted to improving the lives of veterans and military families. This is the second year that the chapter has participated in Wreaths Across America. In addition to this event, members also support Honor Flight, clip and mail thousands of coupons to military families, send care packages to deployed military service members, and participate in events to support patients of the VA Medical Center in Northport.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a women's service organization founded in 1890, promotes patriotism, historic preservation and education. Members of the DAR share a common connection; all descend from men and women who supported the cause of American Independence during the Revolutionary War. Over 1 million women have been admitted to membership since the organization's founding 129 years ago.
