Dix Hills 4th Grader in IKEA National Drawing Contest

Voting Open Through December 4 for Original Art to Become Internationally Sold Toy

Galina Hellman, a fourth grader at Signal Hill Elementary School in Dix Hills, is currently a top 20 contender in her age group (9-12) in the IKEA 2017 Soft Toy contest, open for voting now until December 4, 2017.

In her submission, Hellman, age 9, described her original character Uniburger, stating "I'm the only uniburger but that doesn't matter because I love being different." The top 15 drawings, chosen through the online voting conducted from 11/20 - 12/4, plus 5 wildcard IKEA picks will be submitted into the IKEA Global Soft Toy drawing competition. From these worldwide entries, Hellman's drawing could be one of 5 chosen to be turned into a real soft toy and sold in IKEA stores as part of a limited edition Soft Toy collection in Autumn 2018. IKEA globally will be donating the entire sale of the SAGOSKATT collection, the soft toys made from last year's winners, to contribute to the IKEA Let's Play for Change campaign supporting children's rights to play and develop.

Local residents can vote for Dix Hills' own Uniburger (drawing ID 994101) at https://info.ikea-usa.com/softtoy/voting/home/index/994101.
