Dolan Health Center Recognized as First Breastfeeding Friendly Practice on LI
It is the first practice on Long Island and in New York City to be recognized by the New York State Department of Health.

The Dolan Family Health Center in Greenlawn was recently recognized as the first breastfeeding friendly practice on Long Island and in New York City.
New York State Department of Health recognized the health center for its practices.
“The Dolan Family Health Center consistently strives toward offering patients the highest standard of care and encourages best practices,” William Gehrhardt, MD, medical director of the health center, said in a press release. “Becoming a breastfeeding friendly practice just seemed like the right thing to do.”

The Dolan Family Health Center’s procedure helps mothers and their babies gets vital information about the importance of breastfeeding.
The ob/gyn and pediatric caregivers at the health center who are certified in breastfeeding education work to support women and their babies during the breastfeeding process.

“It is well established that breast milk and breastfeeding offers infants the best nutrition; enhances their immunity and their intelligence; and creates a strong bonding experience between mother and child,” Gehrhardt said.
Led by Debbie Hernandez, the staff gives the mothers helpful tips and advice on best practices.
Mothers are also able to receive care from a certified lactation consultant at the health center.
“Much effort and team work went into obtaining this designation and the Dolan staff was very enthusiastic in working towards the goal,” Gehrhardt said. “Their efforts are truly appreciated.”
