Driver Charged With DWI After Fatal Three-Car Crash on Jericho Turnpike: Police

The crash occurred Sunday night on the westbound Jericho Turnpike.

Huntington Station, NY — A Lindenhurst man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Huntington Station Sunday night, police said.

According to police, Ryan Gurecki, 34, was driving a 2010 Ford Explorer westbound on Jericho Turnpike when he struck a 2016 Ford Escape that was stopped at a red light on westbound Jericho Turnpike, waiting to make a left turn onto Route 110 around 9:20 p.m.

A 2014 Honda Odyssey, driven by a 59-year-old Melville man, also traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike waiting to make a left turn onto Route 110, was sideswiped by Gurecki’s Explorer.

Three family members in the Ford Escape were transported to Huntington Hospital.

The mother, identified as Karen Holden, 56, of Huntington Station, died from her injuries at the hospital. Her husband, and driver of the Escape, William Holden, 57, suffered a head injury and her son, Robert Holden, 23, suffered a back injury.

They are both listed in stable condition.

Gurecki was charged with driving while intoxicated. He is being held at the second precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in First District Court in Central Islip.

All three vehicles have been impounded for safety checks, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
