Driver Charged W/ DWI After Passenger Injured In Suffolk Crash: PD

The man drove the wrong way and struck two trees and a utility pole, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — A Cold Spring Harbor man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after his passenger was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash on Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

Maxwell Hawkinson, 18, was driving a 2021 Jaguar F-Pace northbound on West Neck Road, south of Clearview Street, when he crossed into the southbound lane, struck a tree, a utility pole and a
second tree at 1:15 a.m., police said.

Hawkinson was brought to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

Hawkinson's passenger, an 18-year-old Lloyd Harbor man, was brought to another hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said.

Hawkinson was charged with DWI. He is scheduled for arraignment at a later date. The car was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
