2nd Annual Kickball Fundraiser to Honor Huntington HS Alum

Tournament & other evening festivities will be held Saturday, April 30th to raise funds for scholarship in memory of Billy Oliva.

The 2nd Annual Spring HHS Alumni Kickball Tournament will be held at on April 30th in the afternoon to help raise funds for "Let It Begin With Me – William F. Oliva Memorial Scholarship." The scholarship was created in February, 2010 by the Class of 1984 alunmi to honor their classmate Billy Oliva, who was killed in a work-related accident on Oct. 14, 2004.

Acording to Rose Pelle Kitzmiller, the organizer of the scholarship and Saturday's festivities, each tournament serves to both raise money for the recently-created scholarship for Huntington High School seniors, and to honor the memory of our friend Billy Oliva, the Class of 1984 alum.

"The scholarship guarantees at least one or more college-bound Huntington High School students a partial scholarship to help further their education," Kitzmiller said. The first tournament was held in April, 2010 and raised $7,000, which then went towards scholarships for two members of the outgoing Class of 2010.

April 30th's event begins at 1 p.m. at the high school's softball field. Participation costs $20, with all the proceeds going to the scholarship for the Class of 2011, and Kitzmiller said spectators are encouraged to donate as well.

After the kickball game, at 6:30 p.m. a "Celebration of Life" will take place at of Greene Street, where attendees and kickball participants are invited to celebrate and share their memories of Billy Oliva. At 9 p.m., a special music concert will take place at , featuring local Huntington artists and Huntington High School alumni.
