Firefighters Battle Centerport Bedroom Blaze

CENTERPORT, NY — A fire broke out Friday afternoon in the bedroom of a Centerport home. Firefighters from the Centerport Fire Department responded to the Westbrook Court house at 3:46 p.m., according to P.I.O. Steve Silverman.

Crews quickly and aggressively put out the fire. Centerport firefighters responded with a ladder truck, two engines, heavy rescue truck, ambulance and paramedic unit. The Northport, Halesite and Greenlawn fire departments helped at the scene with additional apparatus, with Huntington and East Northport crews providing standby coverage at Centerport fire headquarters.

About 60 firefighters were on the scene under the command of First Assistant Chief Andy Heglund, with interior operations being handled by Second Assistant Chief Kyle McLaughlin.

No injuries were reported. The Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad are investigating the cause of the fire.
