April 9: Workshop For Kids; Sports

5 things you need to know today.

1. Writers Workshop: Writers of all levels and genres are welcome to participate in this informal two-hour session geared towards refining and exploring each individual's talents. The Long Island Wroters Group workshop is free and open to the public. No reservations or sign up required. Just bring a pen, paper, and the willingness to create to the at 7 p.m. Monday. 

2. High School Sports: Walt Whitman at 10 a.m.; Riverhead boys lacrosse plays  at 11 a.m.; Harborfields in girls softball at 4:30 p.m.

3. Ancient Order Of Hibernians: Huntington's Ancient Order of Hibernians meets at 7:30 p.m. in the VFW Hall located at 210 West Pulaski Rd. in Huntington Station.

4. Spring Break Workshops At The Vanderbilt Museum: Four spring break progams for students preschool through third grade will be offered from April 9 to 13 at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum. Workshops include Mummy Masks, Madeira Mosaics, Cat Masks and Gyotaku T-shirts. Admission $25.

5. Nearby: Holocaust survivors and others will commemorate the liberation of the Nazi death camps on Monday at the  at , 11:30 a.m.
