Long Island 5-Year-Old Gets A Drive-By Birthday Party

Fifty cars of family and friends cheered up a Long Island girl during the coronavirus lockdown.

GREENLAWN, NY As New Yorkers adapt to living under social distancing policies put in place to curb the coronavirus pandemic, some families are finding new ways to celebrate important milestones. Weddings, graduations and family reunions have been postponed as Long Islanders entered what Gov. Andrew Cuomo called a "pause" in New York.

Emma Pfeiffer turned 5 on Tuesday and friends and family of the Greenlawn girl wanted to make it extra special, since this is her first birthday since she lost her father to pancreatic cancer last year. Greg Pfeiffer was 38 when he died.

Janie Pashman, a friend of the Pfeiffer family, told Patch a long line of friends and Greenlawn neighbors drove by to wish Emma a happy birthday this morning.

"It was definitely bittersweet without her dad there, but we had about 50 cars come by to celebrate," Pashman said.

Emma, the youngest of three siblings, was on the lawn of her home to hear the songs and messages the well-wishers gave her from their car windows. Some cars held up signs with cheerful messages.
