Get Free Tickets to Long Island Museums on Museum Day Live 2016
Get unique access Saturday to several area museums that typically charge admission.

If the fee has been keeping you from experiencing some of Long Island’s historical sites, this may be an offer you can't refuse. Museum Day Live! offers an annual event that provides unique tickets for free admission this Saturday, Sept. 24, to participating museums across the country, including 16 historical sites on Long Island.
Participating museum sites include popular destinations like the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Old Westbury Gardens, Sagtikos Manor and more.
The Museum Day Live! tickets, available online at SmithsonianMag, will provide free admission at any participating site this Saturday. You can also search participating museums.

- Located at One Museum Drive in Roslyn Harbor
- Open from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
- Nassau County Museum of Art is located on the the former Frick Estate, the heart of Long Island’s Gold Coast. The main museum building, a three-story Georgian mansion, exemplifies architecture of the late 19th century. The museum also features the Sculpture Park, historic Formal Garden, the Pinetum, rare specimen trees and marked walking trails.
- Located at Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Garden City
- Open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Cradle of Aviation Museum is an aviation and spaceflight museum that commemorates Long Island's part in the history of aviation. The 150,000 square foot museum features 75 air and spacecraft and offers more than 30 hands-on exhibits.
- Located at 112 Hofstra University in Hempstead
- Open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Hofstra University Museum (HUM) presents more than 5,000 works of art and cultural artifacts, focusing on American Art of the 18th through 21st century.
- Located a 1 Heitz Place in Hicksville
- Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Hicksville Gregory Museum is housed in a 1895 courthouse and has Long Island’s largest public display of minerals, fossils and butterflies. The museum also features photographs and artifacts related to the development of Hicksville and the surrounding area.
- Located at 71 Old Westbury Road in Old Westbury
- Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Old Westbury Gardens is listed as the former country estate of John S. Phipps and his wife Margarita Grace Phipps. It opened to the public in 1959 to preserve part of Long Island‘s heritage.
Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County
- Located at 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove
- Open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- This museum details a chronicle of the Holocaust using multimedia displays, artifacts, archival footage, testimonies from local Survivors and Liberators and galleries.
- Located at 140 Glen Street in Glen Cove
- Open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Housed in the restored 1907 Justices Courthouse, the museum delves into local histories through exhibits, lectures, and educational programs.
- Located at 1395 Planting Fields Road in Oyster Bay
- Open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- The former Gold Coast era estate consists of 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths and plant collections. The original historic estate buildings are intact, including Coe Hall, a 65-room Tudor Revival mansion. Coe Hall is open for tours from spring through fall. Programs are offered for children and adults.

- Open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (free every day)
- The Oyster Bay Historical Society maintains the 1720 Earle-Wightman House, a colonial garden and the Angela Koenig Research and Collections Center. The Society offers a library and archives for research, as well as rotating exhibitions, educational programs, and community events.
Suffolk County
- Located at 2 Prime Ave. in Huntington
- Open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The museum, one of the cultural centerpieces of Long Island, is located in Huntington’s historic Heckscher Park and has been bringing art to Long Island since 1920. The museum’s collection features more than 2,500 works of art, ranging from the early 16th century to the present.
Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site & Interpretive Center
- Located at 246 Old Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station
- Open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center brings visitors back in time to view the works of Long Island’s own, Walt Whitman. The historic Birthplace stands in the same spot where it was originally built.
- Located on Montauk Highway and Manor Lane in West Bay Shore
- Open from 11 a.m. to 3:30 pm.
- Sagtikos Manor was built in 1697 by Stephanus Van Cortland with additions added on in 1772 and 1902. Brewing with history: the manor was briefly occupied by British forces during the Revolutionary War and President George Washington stayed at the 40-room manor while touring Long Island in 1790. Now, the manor features a collection of period rooms furnished by the Thompson-Gardiner family as well as a 10-acre estate that includes a family cemetery, carriage house, buttery and walled garden.

- Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Located on nine scenic acres, the museum's three buildings feature exhibitions on history and art, as well as collections of the finest horse-drawn vehicles in the country. It is the largest privately supported museum on Long Island and a Smithsonian affiliate museum.
- Located at Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook
- Open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (free every day)
- The Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery presents professional and student exhibitions in a 5,000 square foot space.
Oysterponds Historical Society
- 1555 Village Lane in Orient
- Open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (free every day)
- Oysterponds Historical Society presents the culture and heritage of the North Fork through education, exhibitions, scholarships and more. The museum collects, preserves and interprets the history of the Orient and East Marion communities.
- Located at 158 Main St. in East Hampton
- Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free every day)
- Guild Hall is an arts, entertainment and education center that collects, preserves and presents programs in the visual and performing arts. It also highlights the work of East End artists.
