Finally the tennis league schedules are appearing for all the wonderful teams you look forward to. All players should get their equipment ready to play your best.
1) Grips needs to be tacky as in new leather or for most of us a fresh over grip. This is your only contact point with the racquet, like your car tires on the road.
2) Restringing is also critical for good ball control. Hint: replace your string when are loosing matches not just because the sweet spot is a little softer. A larger softer sweet spot could actually be better than a newly strung tighter job. If your balls go long to often, you probably need a new tighter restinging.
3) New racquet decisions ? Most retail stores offer a demo program to try a few new racquets. Use this opportunity to read and talk about what the racquet is about, power, control or comfort. The demos will not come with your favorite string or your personal string tension choice, so when you order your new racquet it will feel different from the demo. So you have to bite the bullet and buy what seems to be your best racquet and then make it your own over the first couple of weeks of use.
Remember to make this year the season you pan to win more. Good luck getting started.
