'Good 2 Go' Deli Breathes New Life into Familiar Space

Standing empty for almost a year, a storefront that has housed numerous delicatessens over the years now has a new owner with a new name: the "Good 2 Go" Deli, at the corner of Woodbury Road and High Street, in Huntington Village.

Good 2 Go owner Huntington resident Dave Glicker has  been in the "restaurant, bar, nightclub, and entertainment business," for decades and knows a good opportunity when he sees one. He saw one when he'd drive by the vacant space at Woodbury and High in Huntington,  and was driven to act.

Glicker said that the space needed a "full makeover" and it got one. After four months of renovations and preparations, Good 2 Go  opened earlier this year to big fanfare, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was attended by local luminaries and town officials.

The transformation is complete, in every facet of the deli. The façade and entrance way have been remodeled, and the interior has been re-fashioned into a warm cozy inviting stop for refreshment, complete with a flat screen television by the cash register, and a bar-stool seating area looking out onto Woodbury Road.

Glicker knew that he wanted a place where a customer could get fresh, homestyle dishes, at affordable prices. "We get calls from people in the neighborhood, 'please put out a plate of shepherd's pie, I'm coming in,' or 'I'm going to pick up my turkey dinner'…we're looking to fill a void in Huntington."

All of Good 2 Go's dishes are made on the premises. The ingredients? "Whatever I get is quality, because we are in a discriminating neighborhood," says Glicker. "For us, it's about making homestyle food that we can display and be proud of."

Glicker's family owns a bagel store in Plainview – Gold & Meyer's – from where he brings in fresh bagels every morning.

Some of Good 2 Go's specialties include a full breakfast menu, complete with omelets, wraps, and - of course - fresh bagels. A menu with several Huntington-themed sandwiches – "The Whitman," and the "Wall Street"-  as well as a full list of various specialty Panini sandwiches - is available for lunch.

You can even get a burger, grilled cheese sandwich, or fisherman's platter, straight off of their grill.

In addition to their vegetarian-friendly menu, Good 2 Go carries the only chopped salad bar in town, a pastrami and corned beef steamer, a wide array of Boar's Head products, and home-made desserts.

The deli also features a hot table with daily specials and specialty soups, including Gramma Lily's matzoh ball soup.

Glicker sums up his ethos this way: "At the end of the day, people want to know that you're open at a certain time, that you close at a certain time…that there is quality there. Huntington is a special place, and it deserves to have a special deli."

"Good 2 Go" is located at 147 Woodbury Road, in Huntington.
