Harborfields, Cold Spring Harbor Among Best School Districts in Nation, New York

Niche.com recently released its 2017 list of the best school districts throughout the nation and in the state of New York, putting Northport-East Northport and Elwood School Districts among the best in the state.

Northport-East Northport Schools and the Elwood Union Free School District were ranked No. 77 and No. 78, respectively.

Several of these Long Island schools are no strangers to making Niche lists, but roles have changed since the 2016 rankings. For one, the number of New York school districts in 2017 national rankings nearly quadrupled.

Fourteen Long Island school districts made the national list of the top 100 districts in the country, including Great Neck, which took the No. 5 spot. Just four Long Island districts made the national list in Niche's 2016 rankings.

In the statewide rankings, Great Neck was named the best school district in New York in 2017, beating out Jericho, which was named No. 1 in 2016.

To come to these results, Niche analyzed academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users. Read how this ranking was calculated here.
