Huntington Bay Zoning Board Votes Yes on Pool
BZA votes unanimously to approve construction of new pool at Head of the Bay Club.
Huntington Bay's Board of Zoning Appeals approved the application for the Head of the Bay Club's new pool at its July meeting earlier this month. The club's attorney, James M. Murphy, was present to hear the board's unanimous decision in person.
"The club is delighted," Murphy said of the decision.
The village's Board of Trustees previously approved the plans submitted by the engineer on the winter 2010 project, but that decision was conditional and subject to the BZA's approval of the club's June 10 application. Now that the condition was met, the existing 45-year-old pool will be demolished right after Labor Day. Construction on the new pool should begin immediately thereafter.

"We are extremely pleased that the cooperation between the Head of the Bay Club and the various representatives of the Village of Huntington Bay has resulted in the approval of our beautiful new pool project," said Frank Evangelist, president of the club. "The timing of the project, which we hope to begin promptly after Labor Day, is very critical. Any significant delay in approval would have had a major impact on our construction and financing plans."
According to the application, the Head of the Bay Club plans to reconfigure and replace the existing pool and upgrade the cabanas and the snack bar.

"We are very fortunate to have been able to time the pool replacement to occur in this low interest rate environment," Evangelist said. "Many of our members and frequent guests are residents of the Village of Huntington Bay so it is a mutually rewarding project for us and for the residents of the village."
