Huntington Extends Lifeguard Hours At Beaches, Opens Cooling Centers

The changes will be in effect for the rest of the heatwave.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington has extended its lifeguard hours at beaches and designated cooling centers across the town to help residents beat the heat, Supervisor Ed Smyth announced.

The changes will be in effect for the duration of the heat wave on Wednesday and Thursday, according to Smyth.

“Feel free to cool off at any one of our Town of Huntington cooling centers this Wednesday and Thursday,” Smyth said. “Remember to stay hydrated during this extreme heat, check on homebound neighbors, never leave pets outside in this heat and keep them off the hot pavement.”
