Huntington Extends Pool, Beach, Spray Park Hours During Heat Advisory

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington will extend hours at several beaches, spray parks and the Dix Hills Pool during this week’s heat advisory, officials announced Wednesday.

The town will also open the Huntington Flanagan Senior Center as a cooling center for residents on Thursday and Friday.

“The Town of Huntington is once again offering services and resources to help make these hotter-than-average days easier to tolerate,” Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth said. “During this heat advisory, the town will be extending the hours of our spray parks, the Dix Hills Pool and our primary beaches to help provide some cooler spots to beat the heat.”

The following facilities will operate under extended schedules Thursday and Friday:

Manor Field and Elwood spray parks: Both spray parks will be open to all town residents from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proof of residency is required.

The spray parks will return to their regular hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8. A Town of Huntington Recreation Card will again be required beginning Saturday.

Dix Hills Pool: The pool will be open to all town residents from 12:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Proof of residency is required.

The pool will return to its regular schedule Saturday.

Flanagan Senior Center: The center, at 423 Park Ave. in Huntington, will serve as a cooling center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

People using the building as a cooling center will not be permitted to participate in senior center activities, town officials said.

Town beaches: Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart and Centerport beaches will remain open with lifeguards stationed until 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The beaches are open to Town of Huntington residents only, and beach parking permits are required. Residents can register for a virtual permit at tohbeachpermit.com.

Vehicles without registered permits may be ticketed.

Beach parking is not allowed in the La Casa Restaurant parking lot. Vehicles parked there may be towed, officials said.
