Huntington Extends Warming Center Hours As Temperatures Plunge
Residents are asked to contact Suffolk County services for heat and shelter assistance.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth and the Huntington Town Board will keep two town warming centers open through the weekend as dangerously cold temperatures are forecast across Long Island.
The decision comes as the National Weather Service warned the region could experience some of the coldest air in recent years, with wind chills potentially dropping well below zero Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Forecasters expect daytime highs to fall into the teens over the weekend, with strong gusty winds making it feel near or below zero at times. An inch or two of light snow is also possible late Friday into early Saturday before temperatures plunge.
