Huntington HS Students Earn $400K In Naval ROTC Scholarships
Henry Cartwright and Nathaniel Gamboa are heading out of Huntington High School with a combined $400K in naval scholarships for college.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington High School students Henry Cartwright and Nathaniel Gamboa are excelling in their college journeys before they even get to their freshmen dorms. The pair of students were both recently presented with individual Naval ROTC scholarships valued at $200,000 each, at the senior Huntington High School academic awards night ceremony, the Huntington Union Free School District said in a news release.
Cartwright and Gamboa were two of 1,200 seniors awarded scholarships from 6,000 applicants nationwide.
"Screening is thorough, with a focus on well-rounded individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential and a willingness to accept responsibility, as well as outstanding academic credentials and athletic performance" said Petty Officer Montalvo from the U.S. Navy Recruiting District of New York, who was in attendance for the Huntington awards.

Both students built an impressive resume of accomplishments during their time at Huntington High School.
Cartwright was inducted into Huntington's National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, English Honor Society and Science Honor Society. He also played on the Blue Devil football, lacrosse and swimming teams and was a member of the school's student government, according to Huntington Public Schools.

Gamboa already earned induction into the school's National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, English Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and Math Honor Society. He also was the captain of the Blue Devil swim team and a marching band section leader, according to Huntington Public Schools.
Cartwright is set to study aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech this fall and Gamboa intends to study mathematical science and physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
