Huntington Kindergartener Serves as Principal...For a Day

The young leader replaced Mr. Small as principal of Flower Hill Primary School.

One Huntington kindergartener has kickstarted his career at an early age by serving as principal of Flower Hill Primary School.

Well, at least for a day.

Kaiden Maldonato spent the day carrying out various responsibilities while working with Flower Hill Principal Marlon Small and the main office staff.

According to the Huntington Union Free School District, Kaiden’s parents won this opportunity though a PTA fundraising raffle.

  • Recited the “Pledge of Allegiance” over the public address system.
  • Announced the names of Star Student award recipients.
  • Handed out flyers during the school’s winter songfest.
  • Toured around the entire building.

Kaiden’s day as a principal showed him a small taste of what it’s like to be a school principal.

“It was fun to work with Kaiden throughout the day,” Small told the HUFSD. “He is a bright, inquisitive and articulate young man who already possesses many leadership qualities. This was a great learning experience for him.”
